Lusaka, September 20, 2012 —InfraCo Africa signed an agreement today with the shareholders of Lunsemfwa Hydropower Company Limited (LHPC) to sell all of its interest in Muchinga Power Company, a $500million hydro power generation project under development in Zambia, to LHPC.

InfraCo Africa, a publicly funded infrastructure development group managed by eleQtra Limited, was established seven years ago to support the identification and development of infrastructure investments and attract increased private sector investment in frontier markets in Sub Saharan Africa.

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has granted a 15 million euroloan to Cape Verde to help the country finance wind energy projects in the islands of Santiago, Sao Vicente, Sal and Boasvista, sources from the institution told PANA.

The achievement of those projects, which will be implemented by a joint company set up by the Cape Verdian government and the Electra and Infraco companies will bring in 28 additional megawatts.

The Cabeolica wind farm, set across four islands of the Cape Verde archipelago,
has led the way in wind power generation in Africa. The wind farm is managed by
a special purpose company, Cabeolica S.A., established by the founding partners
in 2009. Lying across the trade winds belt, the archipelago has consistent wind
speeds of up to 10m/s creating one of the best locations in the world for
power generation. The farms’ ability to directly supply energy to the
individual power grids on each of the islands means a sizable reduction in
the need to import fuel, diminishing the country’s sensitivity to fluctuating
commodity prices and reducing costs across the board.
