The African Development Bank (AfDB) has granted a 15 million euroloan to Cape Verde to help the country finance wind energy projects in the islands of Santiago, Sao Vicente, Sal and Boasvista, sources from the institution told PANA.

The achievement of those projects, which will be implemented by a joint company set up by the Cape Verdian government and the Electra and Infraco companies will bring in 28 additional megawatts.

Kalangala Infrastructure Services (KIS) has started $45m (about sh102.6b) development projects in Ssesse Islands. The area is made up of 84 islands.

The firm will construct and operate two ferries, build a 1.6-megawatt solar plant, upgrade the 66km main island roads and develop a water supply system in Kalangala, according to John Opiro, the managing director.
